Knowing What Your Clients Really Want
Most of my clients are technology companies. The biggest mistake tech companies make when they sell is focusing too much on logic. They craft compelling, logical reasons why their solutions makes sense. Unfortunately, this approach is exactly the wrong way to go about it.
Many,
many tech companies fall into the “if we build it they will come” trap. They
believe their solutions are so cool, their underlying engineering is so
impressive and that their team is so impressive that all they have to do is
throw a product into the marketplace. People will find them.
When
they don’t, these companies inevitably blame their customers or the market
itself.
The real
problem was that they failed to keep their customers’ wants and needs as a
top-of-mind concern. Their messaging consisted of “look at us” efforts, rather
than “what can we do for you” value building.
"There is always a need for some selling. But, the aim of Marketing is to make selling superfluous.” – Peter Drucker
